How Gio Won MrBeast's $500,000 Last-to-Leave Circle Challenge Against 99 Returning Contestants

Overview

MrBeast puts 100 people in 100 circles and offers $500,000 to whoever leaves theirs last. He says he doesn't care whether it takes "weeks, months, or even a year." Every contestant has appeared in an earlier MrBeast video, and he calls it "the biggest crossover in MrBeast history." The rule is simple: cross the red line around your circle and you lose. Over more than a week, though, the challenge stops being only about endurance. MrBeast keeps adding games designed to eliminate players in large numbers, and in the end the money is decided by a paintball duel.

A Field of Returning Players

Because every contestant has competed before, MrBeast describes the field as "very tough competition." Players already know one another from earlier videos. One contestant names "42" from the Ages 1 to 100 video, the woman who jumped off the platform and eliminated 99 people, as the biggest threat. Another says their circle is "literally bigger than me and Grizz's house," a reference to the wilderness video.

Each shirt shows how much money that person has won and lost in previous videos. MrBeast reads Lannan's history aloud: $200,000, $250,000, $1 million, a $2.5 million private jet, and another million dollars "to the cube." Lannan jokes that hanging out with MrBeast (Jimmy) reminds them "of all my failures."

Early Exits on Day One and the First Night

The first elimination comes 30 minutes in. T.J. touches the line and leaves, saying "someone's gotta do it, and I'll take the sacrifice." Chandler, who is used to going out first, is relieved not to be first, then walks out right after to become the second. Big Justice leaves next, apparently because they didn't want to use the porta potty.

The contestants have to sleep inside their circles, and Gio, a 12-year-old who has been in both Ages 1 to 100 videos, works to keep everyone awake. MrBeast says the tactic "seemed like it was actually working." Several older players leave, and one says it "isn't an old man's game." While others slept, seven people accidentally touched the red line. Karl was one of them and woke up with a big toe on the line. By the end of the first night, 14 players were out.

Towers and Dodgeballs

The next game is one MrBeast calls one of the hardest they have ever done: building a tower of blocks on a red base. One contestant says this is how they lost on Beast Games. After the towers are built, MrBeast starts a 24-hour timer. If a tower falls in that time, its builder is eliminated. Then he hands everyone a dodgeball. When the timer reaches zero, the lights turn red and every player gets ten seconds to throw at someone else's tower. Knocking a tower over eliminates its owner.

The rule pushes the group into politics. MrBeast warns that "you probably don't want 20 people throwing their dodgeball at you." Contestants form pacts with their neighbors, and some stay up all night guarding their towers. Others worry they can't sleep at all. One player goes out in the meantime after touching the line while reaching for a raisin, then keeps touching it, which MrBeast calls "a half-a-million-dollar raisin."

Targets are often chosen based on earlier videos. One contestant goes after Jeremy because "I saw him on TV" and thinks Jeremy should have made better decisions. Rayne's name also comes up. When the throws land, Jeremy's tower falls to Joey, the hot dog eater, and Mark is eliminated as well. MrBeast calls the most brutal moment "instant karma": Hugo knocked out Rayne, and both end up leaving. The two had been in the bunker video together and argue on the way out about who did the cooking and cleaning there. The survivors kick their own towers over, and 62 people remain.

Hot Potato With an Invisible Clock

On the next day MrBeast announces that half the remaining players will go home. The circles are split into four color-coded quadrants for a hot potato game. A one-hour timer runs where nobody can see it, and when it ends, the two quadrants holding the two balls are eliminated. MrBeast says the whole game depends on each team's ability to keep track of time.

The teams try several methods. One person counts seconds while another counts minutes, and some groups use multiple counters, reasoning that the average of many counts should be fairly accurate. Many contestants doubt it will work. One says you might get close for a minute, but you can't guarantee a perfect count over an hour. The counts do drift apart. At one check, orange thinks 9 minutes 20 seconds have passed while green is at 10 minutes 15 seconds, almost a minute's difference. Other players shout random numbers to throw off the counters.

Once the balls start flying, the game turns chaotic. A ball hits a camera, and one player runs out of their circle. When the lights turn red, both balls are in the yellow quadrant, which is eliminated. Six people who stepped on their lines during the game are also removed, including Bret, who takes off their shirt in response. Pink, green, and orange then play a ten-minute tiebreaker with one ball. MrBeast notes that the second round brought the "same panic, same confusion," just with more desperation. Akira is credited with saving their team, and pink is eliminated.

Head-to-Head on the Balance Beam

On day five, before the next game begins, Josh is shown on screen touching the line and leaves after five days in the circle. The next game pairs circles at random and connects each pair with a balance beam. Each beam has two gold balls on it. The first player to grab a ball and get back to their own circle advances, and if both fall, both are eliminated.

The first pairing ends badly for both players. Asma beats Arlene back, but touches the red line about a second and a half later while celebrating, and both are eliminated. Noah beats Preston easily. Gio faces Nicholas, who falls, and Gio makes it across. In the final pairing, Akira, who previously won a Lamborghini in a challenge, beats Rami after both trade boasts. After five days and 90 eliminations, ten players remain.

The Top Ten Choose Their Own Game

MrBeast introduces the top ten by their history. Los has been in several videos. Akira is from Beast Games. Ronnie competed in Laser Maze. Noah did 32,000 curls. Omar once took a hand off $1 million. Gio has been in both Ages 1 to 100 videos. Alicen previously left a circle for an iPhone. Julia lasted 20 days in the wilderness. Gabrielle reached the top ten for a $1 million island, which Mallory won.

Because they are all experienced, MrBeast tries something he says he has never done: the players pick the game themselves. The only requirement is that it eliminates half of them. They reject rock-paper-scissors because nobody wants to leave $500,000 to chance, and they also reject a bench press contest. They agree on standing on one foot, with the first five to put their foot down eliminated. One player privately says they are a dancer but won't tell the others. Noah lays out the rules: pick one leg, no switching, and no using the other foot for support or touching it to the standing leg. Patrick, the show's standards and practices person, enforces them. MrBeast explains that these videos have someone whose job is to make sure they are fair.

Standing on One Foot

At first the room is silent. MrBeast hands out Feastables and asks players how long they think they can last. One answers that they might go a day. Gabrielle drops first, at about four and a half minutes, and says they feel fulfilled after reaching the top ten twice in a row. Los, who had been wobbling heavily, goes out about five minutes later and says their hip and ankle gave out.

Mallory insists they are fine, but footage shows their foot touching the ground. Mallory says they can't feel their legs at all. After 16 minutes, players start hopping, and Omar and Ronnie are visibly struggling. Ronnie is sweating so much that MrBeast says they are "sweating a pool." Footage review then shows that Julia also touched the ground, which leaves six players. MrBeast observes that Akira is shaking the least.

At around 38 minutes, Omar says "Jimmy, I can't do this" and drops, sending the other five through. Omar later says this was a chance to redeem themselves after the million-dollar challenge and they couldn't do it. MrBeast tells them not to be too hard on themselves.

Game or Endurance

The top five are Akira, Gio, Noah, Ronnie, and Alicen. MrBeast offers them a choice. They can play one final game that eliminates four of them, or they can settle it with traditional endurance, which could take days, weeks, or months. Each writes a choice on a sign within one minute.

Akira and Gio write "game," and Noah and Ronnie write "endurance." Alicen is undecided and becomes the tiebreaker. Gio lobbies Alicen hard, asking whether they want to be stuck there for a month, while others tell Alicen not to listen to a 12-year-old. Alicen chooses "game." Afterward, the endurance side complains that Alicen let a 12-year-old manipulate them, and the mood turns openly competitive.

Paintball and Shrinking Circles

The guards carry the five circles to a new location. The rules still apply during the move. Each player gets a different-colored paintball gun and faces a mannequin of themselves. On MrBeast's cue, everyone fires one shot at the same time. Each hit shrinks the target's circle, and three hits eliminate them.

In the first round everyone misses. One player notes that the guns shoot slightly higher than you aim. In the second round, Ronnie and Akira hit each other's mannequins. Ronnie tells the others that their winnings would go to kids, and Gio answers, "I'm a kid!" In the third round, Akira's mannequin is hit in the groin.

Before the fourth round, Ronnie suggests the others are missing on purpose so Ronnie and Akira will fight it out, and proposes that everyone target Alicen. Ronnie keeps that promise and hits Alicen, but blue paint shows Ronnie has also been hit. Ronnie and Akira then go back to targeting each other, and both mannequins are hit in the next round. Both are eliminated. MrBeast says the two were so stubborn they cost each other half a million dollars, and gives each of them $10,000 in cash. Ronnie points out that Akira already has a Lamborghini.

With three left, Gio hits Alicen in the chest. Next, Gio's mannequin is hit through the head. MrBeast asks Gio whether they really want to keep battling Alicen. Noah then lands a shot on Alicen, eliminating them, and Alicen also receives $10,000.

The Final Duel: Gio Against Noah

MrBeast tells Gio they are the youngest contestant ever to get this far, and brings in Gio's father, who tells Gio they have shown the world how incredible they are. Asked whether that makes them want to go easy, Noah says no: "they're not my family, and I came here to get mine."

Gio hits Noah's mannequin in the neck, which ties the hits. Noah answers with a shot to the foot, giving Gio a second hit. Gio hits again and ties it, and Noah says they can put a finger through the hole. With both circles shrunk to the minimum, the next hit wins.

On the final shot, Gio wins. Gio's father runs in to hug them. MrBeast calls Gio's run one of the most amazing journeys of any competitor they've had, and says that because Gio never gave up, Gio is the winner of half a million dollars.
