Dominoes, Tank Shells, and a Shredder: Jimmy's Day of Destructive Experiments

Open on YouTube ↗
Overview

The video is framed as "the first of many experiments." Jimmy and the crew try a string of large-scale stunts: toppling what they call the tallest domino in the world, detonating a giant Minecraft-style creeper over a life-size village, launching an explosive-laden roller coaster cart off its track, and testing whether expensive safes can survive equal-value piles of TNT. Running through the whole video is a challenge. A crew member named Adam is given a Lamborghini and Jimmy's credit card, and has three days to defend the car against tank fire. A second Lamborghini is fed into what the video calls the world's largest shredder.

The Tallest Domino

The opening preview promises a store crushed by the world's largest domino. The footage itself centers on the fall. As it starts to tip, the group shouts that it is "actually working" and asks whether they will have to run. After the thud, Jimmy declares it "the new tallest domino in the world." The crew's main reaction is that they had been "way too close." Jimmy then says this was not even the coolest thing in the video and lists what is coming: "the biggest explosion in YouTube history" and a roller coaster launched off its track.

The Giant Creeper and Steve

Next the team plans to destroy an entire village with a massive creeper explosion. For scale, they first show a human-sized creeper, then say the real one is 50 times bigger. Jimmy points out that although it is 50 times larger, it carries 200 times the TNT. A Steve figure stands in the village. Jimmy notes that Steve "somehow" survived a previous creeper, but doubts Steve will survive this one. To show how big the creeper is, Jimmy adds that Steve is taller than Jimmy.

The crew watch from a bunker in what they call the Green Zone, unsure exactly when the blast will happen. Afterward Jimmy says they are "speechless, for once." Someone asks how they are allowed to do this, and the joking answer is: "We live in a country called America."

The Lamborghini Defense Challenge Begins

Jimmy hands Adam a new Lamborghini, then explains the catch. Jimmy has "obtained a military grade tank" and will rain shells on the car in exactly three days. Adam can use Jimmy's credit card to spend as much as needed to defend it. If the Lamborghini survives, Adam keeps it. Adam sums up the goal as "Stop shell, win Lambo."

Adam's first step is to call a construction crew to bring in building materials. The walls are meant to be about a foot taller than Adam's head, which Adam says should at least block direct shots at the car. The second layer is a set of water-filled pools. Adam cites a MythBusters episode in which rounds were fired into a pool, and reasons that water should heavily reduce a projectile's velocity.

The Explosive Roller Coaster

Jimmy says they bought "the world's most dangerous roller coaster." It is dangerous because Jimmy put bombs on the ride. The idea is that a rider should be launched off the rail, and the open question is where they would land.

The first run uses mannequins placed by the crew, with the cart pushed by hand. It goes off the ramp, but Jimmy admits expecting it to fly further. They repeat the run with "dozens of pounds of TNT" in boxes inside the cart and sprint to the bunker after pushing. The cart explodes. Jimmy concludes that it "might not have flown 100 feet, but at least we blew it up," and says the blast is "literally nothing" compared to the next one.

Safes Versus Equal-Value TNT

The safe experiment uses three safes costing $1,000, $10,000, and $100,000. The largest is bigger than Jimmy. For each safe, they spend the same amount on TNT and put an egg inside to see whether it survives. The explosives are brought in by Chandler, whom Jimmy jokingly calls "my dealer." Jimmy notes that the detonator is usually a wireless switch, but this time it is hardwired.

  • $1,000 safe, $1,000 of TNT: After the blast, the egg "literally" doesn't exist anymore.
  • $10,000 safe, $10,000 of TNT: The safe is described as 50 times stronger, with three-inch-thick steel, against ten times the explosives. Stacking the crates is compared to "explosive Jenga" and to putting presents around a Christmas tree. Someone questions whether a $10,000 safe is worth it if it can't protect an egg. Another replies that they don't know whether safes are meant to stop TNT at all. The blast leaves a divot in the ground. It also breaks the glass on the $100,000 safe nearby, and Jimmy says in hindsight the safes should have been placed further apart.
  • $100,000 safe, $100,000 of TNT: Jimmy calls this the biggest explosion they have ever done "by far." Jimmy adds that their videos have become so extreme that people think they are faked, and insists this is a real explosion. Afterward they joke about waking up the whole city and state. The back of the safe is gone, and the concrete foundation is cracked. Jimmy's reading is that the manufacturer put its effort into the 37,000-pound door rather than the walls. The egg did not survive.

Adam's Fortress Grows, and the Rules Change

Adam builds through the night and remarks that it is still hot at 2 a.m. By morning the defenses include cars from a scrapyard, stacked at least two layers deep. Adam's "real secret" is to position them so the engine blocks face the incoming shots, reasoning that an engine block has more stopping power than the side of a car. Jimmy's tally at this point is two cinder-block walls, two layers of stacked cars, and three pools of water. Adam is confident: "That Lambo's mine, baby."

Jimmy then brings in two more tanks, so the car will be targeted from all sides, and tells Adam there is a little under 24 hours left. Adam admits being stressed and says the strategy would have been completely different with advance notice of three tanks.

While Adam keeps building, the crew test a tank against a 100-pound safe, a trampoline, and bulletproof glass. The round goes through, and someone can see daylight through the hole from behind. Jimmy notes this is the weakest of the three tanks and concludes "Adam is screwed."

Warming Up the Shredder

To show how powerful the shredder is before the Lamborghini goes in, the team feeds it other objects. A piano goes in first, and Jimmy remarks that it "doesn't sound like piano noises." Next comes a load of Coke, which Jimmy is "99% sure" will burst. Then a Hershey's vending machine, which gets stuck; Jimmy jokes that not even the massive shredder "can digest Hershey's." Finally, a porta potty is dropped in by Kris, whom Jimmy questions being allowed to operate the equipment. Jimmy notes they had been in the junkyard for 10 hours and confesses to having used it earlier. These shredder segments run alongside a sponsored segment.

Adam's Last Night

The final night goes badly for Adam. Nothing is open, resources are running short, and Adam is down to the last bricks. Adam calls stopping three tanks "just impossible" but refuses to sleep. When Jimmy returns, Adam is still building and asks for five more hours.

Over the last 24 hours, Adam has added 20 more cars, four more walls on the sides, and two more giant pools. One new pool is empty because Adam ran out of time to fill it. Jimmy suggests learning time management, and Adam agrees. Jimmy also notices far fewer cars on one side, and a wall filled with sand that Jimmy thinks may be easier to push over. Adam insists it will be fine, and Jimmy asks whether Adam even wants the Lambo.

Twenty Tank Shells

Jimmy says they have obtained 20 real tank shells and will not stop firing until all are used. The first shot hits the pool in front of the Lamborghini, and water pours everywhere. More shots follow, including all three tanks firing at once. Adam's walls block the view of the car from the firing position, so nobody knows its condition until the ammunition runs out. Adam's confidence fades: "I've done all I can do," and Adam's "only hope is that they're missing." For the final shot, Adam is made to pull the trigger personally and decides to "go down looking like a G."

When they reach the car, it has no holes. Jimmy's explanation is that the scrap cars were not strong enough to stop the rounds, but they deflected them away from the Lamborghini. A shell is also found in the pool directly in front of the car. Jimmy says the pool "caught a bullet for you," and Adam thanks MythBusters. Adam keeps the Lamborghini, and the episode closes with Adam squeezing into it to check that it fits.

The Lamborghini Meets the Shredder

The last experiment drops a Lamborghini into the shredder by crane. It hangs over the edge for a moment, then falls in and gets caught on its tires. The crew say it looks like it is dancing and that their building is shaking. Jimmy calls it the coolest thing they have ever seen. Because the car is "fighting back," the crane pushes it down until it is shredded. Jimmy then reassures viewers that this car didn't work and had been decommissioned.
