Chloe Cherry's Routine: Layered Skincare, Lifelong Lip Filler, and Why Euphoria Took Her Makeup Off
VogueIn this Vogue Beauty Secrets episode, Euphoria actor Chloe Cherry walks through their everyday skincare routine and makeup look. Cherry's approach centers on being gentle with the skin, keeping it heavily moisturized, and layering many products. Along the way they talk openly about Botox and lip filler, lashes that grew too long for continuity on set, a makeup test where the show's creator asked for everything to be wiped off, and their long devotion to Justin Bieber.
Cleansing and exfoliating without tugging
Cherry starts with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. They pat their face dry instead of rubbing it, because rubbing pulls on the skin, which they believe can cause wrinkles. The concern about tugging comes up again and again in the routine.
Next is Dr. Dennis Gross's ultra gentle daily peel, a two-step pad system. The first pad is rubbed all over the face, and the second, an "anti-aging neutralizer," is wiped on after it. Cherry prefers chemical exfoliants to physical ones because chemical exfoliants don't tug on the skin.
Making the bathroom humid
After a spray, Cherry turns on a portable humidifier by Canopy, which they bought at Sephora. They keep it running with the bathroom door closed so the room gets more and more humid while they apply the rest of their products. At the very end of skincare, they hold up the steamer and let the products soak into their face for about 20 or 30 minutes before starting makeup.
Serums and how often to use retinol
The first serum is the Augustinus Bader and Dua Lipa collaboration. Cherry uses only a couple of pumps and spreads a thin layer, since several more serums go on top. They also use prescription-strength retinols, which they describe as extremely heavy, but only once a week. On most nights the focus is on moisturizing. The next layer is Rhode's Peptide Glazing Fluid.
A lifelong "Belieber" at Coachella
While applying products, Cherry talks about seeing Justin Bieber perform at Coachella, which they call "Bieberchella." It was the first time they had ever seen him live. They have been a fan since his debut. "Baby" came out when they were in middle school, and in 2009 they asked their mom for a Justin Bieber action figure for Christmas. They got it and still have it, unopened in the box.
Finding products, and a retinol eye cream
The Medicube serum is in the routine because it contains PDRN, which Cherry says is good for anti-aging and wrinkles. They find most products through TikTok recommendations or by regularly browsing Sephora's site for new arrivals and trying them out.
Cherry calls the Shiseido wrinkle-smoothing eye cream their favorite eye cream ever, mainly because it contains retinol. They apply a generous amount under their eyes every night. Cherry says retinol in that area works on wrinkles and can also help with under-eye darkness.
Botox and lip filler
Cherry says they first got Botox and filler because they didn't like how their face looked, and after that they felt they had to keep it up. They have had so much Botox in their forehead that they think the muscle has atrophied. They demonstrate how little they can raise their eyebrows and say they'll never have forehead wrinkles.
They have also had so much lip filler that they no longer need numbing cream, because they are used to how the injections feel. "It's my thing," they say.
Lashes too long for Euphoria's continuity
Cherry started using Sweed Beauty's eyelash serum about a year ago and says it made their lashes grow a lot. While filming Euphoria, their natural lashes became longer than the false lashes the production was using. The makeup artist had to trim Cherry's own lashes so the shots would match for continuity.
Baby powder as dry shampoo
Cherry has thin hair that gets greasy easily, so they use baby powder as dry shampoo. They work it in quickly and point out that it takes away the greasy look and brightens the hair if you're blonde. They call it "an old drag queen trick."
Moisturizer, clean hands, brows, eyes, and sunscreen
Once the serums have soaked in, Cherry applies a heavy moisturizer: Augustinus Bader's face cream mask. They recommend washing your hands between each step before applying the next product, and they repeat the general rule of being gentle and not irritating or tugging on the skin.
For eyebrows, they use Babe's brow serum. Cherry says it makes the hairs darker and thicker, and that it works. They also use Upneeq eye drops. Their tip for applying eye drops is to tilt your head all the way back, aim for the inner corner of the eye, and then blink.
Cherry describes themself as obsessed with sunscreen and says they reapply it every two hours, every day. Shoots make this harder. When they know they'll be filming outdoors the next day, they try to skip retinol, because the heavy on-camera makeup means they can't wear as much sunscreen as they'd want. They say the team has worked out a way to manage it.
Not like Faye
Cherry clips their hair back to start makeup and compares themself to Faye, their Euphoria character. Faye wears a lot of makeup to impress her boyfriend. Cherry says they couldn't care less what a boyfriend thinks, and that any boyfriend who criticized their makeup routine would stop being their boyfriend.
"Can you just take it all off?"
The mascara is Dr. Lara Devgan's lengthening mascara. While applying it, Cherry tells a story from the original season 2 makeup test in 2020. The makeup team had created an inventive look that included gold bars in their eyebrows. When they asked Sam what he thought, he asked if they could take it all off. A makeup artist wiped Cherry's face clean, and Sam looked into the camera and said he liked it that way. Cherry remembers being baffled at being on "the makeup show" and told to go without makeup.
Cherry credits the first season's makeup looks to Donni Davy, whom they call a makeup genius, as well as Alex French and the rest of Davy's team.
Concealer with fingers, and a teenage Lily-Rose Depp phase
Cherry learned about the Clé de Peau concealer from makeup artist Alex French on season 2. They wash their hands and apply it with their fingers. They never use a beauty blender or other sponges, because they consider their own hands the cleanest option.
As a teenager, Cherry tried to recreate Lily-Rose Depp's makeup exactly, especially her bronzy eyeshadow, and wore their makeup that way for years.
Brows and the "360" video
Cherry uses Babe's volumizing brow filler to brush their brows up, then pushes them down slightly so they look a little straighter.
They also describe the shoot for the "360" music video. They were filming a movie in Joshua Tree that didn't wrap until midnight, and they had to be on the "360" set around 8 a.m. They got home at midnight, slept, woke up around 4 a.m., and drove all the way back to LA. They say it was completely worth it. They are obsessed with Charli and happy to see her succeed. When someone told them the video was just trying to get a bunch of "it girls" in, Cherry replied, "Who else is it going to be?" They were thrilled to see Emma Chamberlain and Alex Consani there and say they love Consani and are jealous of her body.
Lips, contour, and a "cooling" shadow
For lips, Cherry uses a Rhode lip liner. They feel for the edge of the lip, fill in all the way around, and add extra at the bottom and center of the lower lip for shading. They contour with the Milk Makeup bronzing stick. It looks dramatic at first, but they blend it with their fingers and wash their hands afterward. They say warm fingers melt the product into the skin. The bronzer gives warmth to their very pale face.
Then they use a Dior palette to "cool my face right back down," patting on a blue shade with a finger. They also take the white shade all the way up to the brow, even though people tell them not to. Their response: "Who cares, call the police."
Finishing touches and pearl powder
After removing the clips, Cherry dabs on a little Aquaphor so the lips don't dry out, then finishes with Dior lip oil. Their final "beauty secret" is pearl powder, which they describe as real pearls crushed into a powder. They take three capsules and swear it makes them glow and look healthy and alive, joking that it's "the only drug I do in real life." With that, they present the finished look of the day and sign off.
Hi, I'm Chloe Cherry, and I'm going to show you my everyday skin care routine and makeup look. I love to use the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser.
I pat my face dry because when you rub your face dry, it pulls on your skin and it can cause wrinkles. Today I am using Ultra Gentle Daily Peel. I take the first pad. I just rub it all over my face. I like chemical exfoliants better than physical exfoliants because they just don't tug on your skin. After I go in with the peel pad, I go in with the second pad, which is their anti-aging neutralizer. And I just wipe it all over my face.
I then go in with this spray.
And then I like to turn on a humidifier for skin. This guy right here by Canopy. I got it at Sephora. It's a portable version. Feels amazing. And then I'll just leave the humidifier on and I'll have the bathroom door closed. I'm just making the room humid and moist and more and more moist.
I like to start adding some serums. I really like this. It's the Augustinus Bader and Dua Lipa collab. And I just use a little bit, a couple pumps. And I just like to put a thin amount because I'm going to layer a lot more serums. I also do use extremely heavy retinols that are prescription strength, but only once a week. Most nights I'm moisturizing my skin a lot.
This is the Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid.
I was at Bieberchella, and I did get to see him perform live for the first time in my life. I've been a fan of his since when he first debuted. "Baby, baby, baby," I love that. I remember I was in middle school when that song came out, and I absolutely loved him. And I remember in 2009, I asked my mom to get me a Justin Bieber action figure for Christmas, and she did. And I still have it to this day in the box because I am a Belieber.
Medicube. I got this because it has PDRN in it, which is good for anti-aging and wrinkles. I find most of my products from—yes, I will go on TikTok and look for recommendations, or I will just scroll the Sephora site all the time and just look for what's new and then just try it out.
This is my favorite eye cream ever. It's the Shiseido. It is Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream, and I really love this eye cream because it has retinol in it. I just take a good amount of it, and I just put it under my eyes. Not only does retinol under your eyes create wrinkles, it can also help with darkness under your eyes. I do this every night.
I decided to get Botox and filler because I did not like how my face looked, and then it just led to me just having to keep doing it and keep upkeeping with it. But I have literally put it in my forehead so many times that I'm not even kidding. I think that the muscle has atrophied because that's how much I can raise my eyebrows. I'll never have forehead wrinkles. Oh my gosh, I did it.
And obviously I get lip filler. I have gotten so much lip filler in my lifetime that I no longer even need to use the numbing cream because I'm so used to how it feels to get lip filler. It's my thing.
Then I go in with my eyelash serum, which is by Sweed Beauty. I started using it a year ago, and it really did make them grow so much. There was actually this point when we were on set for Euphoria where my eyelashes grew longer than the fake lashes that they'd been using that my makeup artist had to trim my eyelashes because they were too long. It just wouldn't match with the continuity. That's how quickly and long they grow.
Another thing that I will do is, because I have thin hair, it can get greasy very easily. Something you can use as dry shampoo is actually just baby powder, and then I'll just put it in my hair. I do it really fast like that, and it really gets in there. And see, it doesn't look greasy, and it looks bright if you're blonde. It's an old drag queen trick.
Once I have my serum soaking in a bit, I like to put on a good, nice, heavy moisturizer. I love using the Augustinus Bader. It's the Face Cream Mask. Something that I really recommend is washing your hands between each step, and then you can put the next product on. Now I can go in and get some moisturizer for my face.
Another thing that is good is to be gentle with your skin and try to not irritate it and tug on it too much.
And I also love brow serum by Babe Brow. And this is just for eyebrow hair growth. It makes them darker and thicker, and it works.
I like to use these eye drops by Upneeq. A tip for putting eye drops in your eyes is to lean your head all the way back, and then aim for the exact inner corner of your eye and drop them there, and then start blinking.
And I am obsessed with sunscreen. I reapply it every single two hours every day. I always try to not use retinol if I know I'm going to be shooting something outside the next day because I won't be able to have that heavy of sunscreen on me because I have so much makeup. But we figured it out. We make it work.
And then once I finish with all of my skin care products, I'll hold up the steamer and try to let it really soak into my face for about 20 or 30 minutes, and then I start my makeup. First things first, I'm going to clip my hair back again.
I am nothing like Faye because Faye likes to put on a lot of makeup to impress her boyfriend, versus I could give less of a what my boyfriend thinks. If I had a boyfriend that thought anything negative of my makeup routine, he would no longer be my boyfriend.
I go in with this mascara, Dr. Lara Devgan.
I remember way back in 2020 when we did the original makeup test for season two, they did a really creative look on my face where they put these gold bars in my eyebrows. I went up to Sam, and they were like, "Okay, Sam, what do you think of this makeup?" And he says, "Can you just take it all off?" And I was like, "What the—I'm on Euphoria. Why would you just take all the makeup off?" And the makeup artist comes up to me and just wipes all the makeup off my face. And then Sam looks into the camera, and he's like, "I like it like that." And I was like, "Okay." What a surprise. I'm on the makeup show, and they don't want me to have makeup on.
The first season's makeup looks, I attribute that all to the talents of Donni Davy. She's a very creative, very talented makeup artist. She is a makeup genius, as well as Alex French and everybody that works with Donni Davy.
Clé de Peau concealer. The way that I discovered this concealer was my makeup artist, Alex French, on season two.
I wash my hands. I never use a beauty blender or any kind of sponge. I always prefer my own hands because that's the cleanest.
I remember when I was a teenager, I was very inspired by Lily-Rose Depp's makeup. And I remember I would try to recreate her exact makeup because she would wear a bronzy sort of eye shadow. Yeah, I did my makeup like that for years.
This is also Babe Brow. It's a volumizing brow filler. I like to just take it and brush my eyebrows up. And then I'll slightly push them down to make them a little bit straight.
Funny story about the "360" music video is that I was also shooting a movie, and we didn't stop shooting until midnight, and then I had to be at the "360" set at 8:00 a.m. I remember I got home at midnight in Joshua Tree, went to sleep, and then woke up at 4:00 in the morning to drive the whole way back to LA to make it to that set. And it was completely, completely worth it. I'm obsessed with Charli, and I'm so, so happy to see her succeed. It was an amazing thing to be a part of.
Someone called me, they're like, "Oh, they're just trying to get a bunch of it girls in." And I was like, "Who else is it going to be?" And then when I saw Emma Chamberlain and Alex Consani were there, I was like, "Hello." I love Alex Consani so much. And she has body tea. I'm really jealous, actually.
Right now I'm using the Rhode, and I just go in all around my lips, and I just feel where the edge of the lip is and just fill it in all around. And then I like to especially fill in at the bottom for the shadowing, and then in the middle of the bottom of the lip.
I also like to do a slight contour to my face. This is the Milk Makeup bronzing stick. Okay, I know it looks crazy right now, but I'm going to blend it in with my fingers. Wash my hands. Your hands are warm, so it melts the product into your skin. I feel like it gives my face a nice kind of warmth to it because I'm so pale.
I like to go in with this Dior palette and cool my face right back down. I love this blue color that they have. I like to just take it with my finger.
People always tell me to not do this, but I do it anyway. I like to take the white color and put it up to my eyebrow. People always say, "Oh, you're not supposed to have eye shadow the whole way up to your eyebrow." I say, "Who cares? Call the police, okay?"
Okay, it's time to take out the clips. And then I'm going to take a little Aquaphor, just a tiny bit so that they don't dry.
Then my last step, I love the Dior lip oil.
And I have a little beauty secret for you all. If you want to glow, you really, really want to glow and you want everyone to know it, pearl powder. It's literally pearls, actual pearls crushed up into a powder, and I swear that it just makes you glow and look healthy and alive. Three capsules. And that's the only drug I do in real life.
Okay, so this is the look of the day. I'm ready to go. Bye, Vogue. Love you.
