aespa Play "Never Have I Ever": Dorm Closets, Fan Cams, and Forgotten Lyrics
VogueIn a short Vogue segment, the four members of aespa (Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning) take turns reading "Never have I ever" prompts and answering on a count of three. Most answers are quick laughs, but several prompts lead to real stories: life in a shared dorm, stage mishaps, lyric mix-ups at concerts, and how the group feels about awkward interviews abroad.
Switching Lives and Solo Songs
The first prompt asks whether anyone has wanted to switch lives with another member for a day. One member said yes, and her reason drew laughter: another member "sleeps so well."
On whether anyone has wished they could steal another member's solo song, the group pushed back. One member said they each pick their own songs "for a reason." The conversation then turned to what they were listening to. The picks were "One Last Breath" by AKMU (as transcribed), "The Healer" by Erykah Badu, "Blue Moon" by Billie Holiday, and "Superpower" by Daniel Caesar. One member also named a Frank Ocean song and then wondered aloud whether it might be Daniel Caesar instead.
Listening to Themselves and Reading the Comments
Asked whether they have ever played their own songs on repeat, the members gave mixed answers. One recalled that she and Giselle once had nothing to do at home and put on the group's old music videos.
Stalking the comments on their performances got a more enthusiastic answer. One member called it "one of my hobbies," which surprised the others. She described it as a kind of monitoring: checking the comments that appear beside the video.
The Dorm Where the Whole House Was a Closet
The prompt about borrowing clothes without asking brought back memories of the members' early days in a shared dorm. One explained that back then the "whole house was a closet basically." Everyone's clothes were mixed together, so nobody asked before wearing something. At that point it was normal. The others joked about spotting their own clothes on each other ("Oh, that's mine"), admitted they don't know how they lived that way, and summed it up as "friendship." Someone then asked, laughing, whether their answers were too boring.
Cringing at Old Interviews
When asked whether they have watched an old aespa interview and cringed, one member said yes and joked that she hoped this video wouldn't become one of them. She explained that the group tends to get "cringe" in interviews outside Korea. In her view, English isn't the only reason. They are often jet-lagged, and "the broken English makes our personalities broken too," so they start acting weird. The others didn't treat this as a problem. One said being cringe isn't a bad thing, another agreed that "to be cringe is to be free," and a third called it cute.
Practicing in Public as Trainees
Several members admitted they had practiced choreography in a random public place. It happened when they were trainees, rehearsing "Black Mamba," which was going to be their debut song. Ningning filmed the practice, which she confirmed.
Fan Cams and a Double Fall on Stage
Everyone said they have searched their own fan cams. The members explained the format for viewers: a fan cam is a close-up video of one member during a performance. They called it "a K-pop thing" that lets fans watch their favorite member or focus on one person's movement.
One member said they sometimes watch fan cams just for fun, and told a story about one. When she and another member performed a song called "Lollipop" on its first stage, they both fell. Smoke covered the stage, and they couldn't see the steps. Both tripped at exactly the same moment while singing, which she called "really embarrassing."
Pretending to Understand, and the "Watch Go" Incident
On pretending to understand something when they had no idea what was happening, one member said, "That's my life," then "my whole life." Another added, "Even right now."
The prompt about something a member hoped wouldn't come up revealed a mistake from about three days earlier, on the last day of a concert run. During "Supernova," one member's line has two versions. The original lyric is "Watch out," but the concert version is "Let's go." She said the two versions got mixed in her head, and she sang "I'm like some kind of supernova, watch go." The others found it hilarious. She said the mistake left her so happy that she enjoyed the rest of the performance.
Forgetting Lyrics: A Group Test
Asked whether they have forgotten the words to one of their songs, the members answered "Duh," then took turns naming songs where it has happened. The titles came out as "Can't Help Myself," "Camouflage," and "Next Level." The others then brought up that one member had forgotten her lyrics at Lollapalooza, and she admitted it. They also agreed that one lyric section ("Twisted, take it… Poppin… Bubble bubble") is especially hard. They tried reciting it together, stumbling over "twist it, flip it" until someone landed on "Bubble bubble bubble, yeah."
Group Chats, Sleep, and Long Shoots
Asked whether they have muted the group chat, one member answered "Always." When asked what the chat is called, they said the name "will always be a secret" and that they cannot say it. The prompt about pretending to be asleep to avoid talking to someone was answered with laughter and a mock toast of "Cheers" and "Salute."
The members treated falling asleep during a music video shoot as nearly unavoidable. One explained that K-pop videos take two to four days to shoot. A typical day starts around 5 or 6 a.m. and runs into the next day, so "there's no way" a member won't fall asleep.
Closing
The last prompt asked whether they have Googled themselves after an interview. Instead of answering directly, one member predicted they would make fun of this very video. With that, the members thanked viewers and said goodbye.
Oh, okay.
Hi Vogue, we're aespa and we're going to play Never Have I Ever.
Never have I ever wanted to switch lives with another member for a day. One, two, three.
What? Because she sleeps so well.
All right.
Never have I ever wished I could steal another member's solo song. Three, two, one.
I feel like we all pick our own songs for a reason.
Right now, my favorite song is "One Last Breath" by AKMU.
"The Healer" by Erykah Badu.
"Blue Moon" by Billie Holiday. And "Superpower" by Daniel Caesar.
Frank Ocean, "White." Or Daniel Caesar, "Who Knows."
Never have I ever listened to our own song on repeat. One, two, three.
Oh so? Oh my God. I never?
I think once, Giselle and I, we at home have nothing to do and we just turned our old music video.
Yeah, music videos, yeah.
Thanks. Never have I ever stalked the comments on one of our performances.
One of my hobbies.
One of your hobbies, really?
Yes. I think it's like monitoring. Seeing the side, the side.
Yeah. Both of them.
Never have I ever borrowed another member's clothes without asking.
Back when we used to live in one dorm together, it was like a closet. The whole house was a closet, basically. Just mixed with all the clothes, so we didn't even ask. At that point it was normal.
Oh, that's mine. Oh, that's mine.
Yeah. I don't know how we did that. Okay, let's do it.
It's called friendship.
Are we too boring?
Never have I ever watched an old aespa interview and cringed.
Cringed?
Yes, I have.
Oh my God. I hope this isn't one of them. We become cringe when it comes to doing interviews outside of Korea. But it's not only because of English, it's also we're jet-lagged and the broken English makes our personalities broken too, if that makes sense. We just start to act weird.
But I don't think being cringe is a bad thing.
Exactly. Yeah, to be cringe is to be free.
It's kind of cute.
Thanks.
Never have I ever practiced choreography in a random public place.
You have. You definitely have.
When we were trainees.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
We were practicing "Black Mamba" because that was going to be our debut song when we were pre-debut.
Ningning was recording.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was the one... Yeah.
Never have I ever searched my own fancams.
For sure.
Yeah, it's a close-up of just you in the performance.
It's a K-pop thing. It's to see your favorite member or the member you want to see. You can click on it.
Focus on your movement. Person, one person.
I think sometimes we watch the fancam just for fun. Aeri and I released our song called "Lollipop," and at the first stage we fell.
Oh, yeah, we tripped.
Yeah, we tripped.
But both of us, because there was smoke on the stage and there were steps and we couldn't see the steps. So we're both singing and going like this, and it was just...
Exactly at the same time.
Yeah, and it was just really embarrassing.
Never have I ever pretended to understand something when I had no idea what was happening.
That's my life.
Yeah, my whole life.
Even right now.
Okay, one, two, three.
Never have I ever done something that I hope my members don't bring up today.
It was maybe three days ago. We have concert, the last day, "Supernova."
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, that was funny.
My part, the lyrics is sometimes "Supernova," then the original version is "Watch out." Concert version is "Let's go." In my brain, they're mixed.
You said "Watch go." "Watch go."
You said, "I'm like some kind of supernova. Watch go."
Because of that, I was so happy during the performance. Yeah.
Never have I ever blamed another member for something I did.
Huh?
Young.
Mic drop it, Winter.
Never have I ever forgotten the words to one of our songs.
Duh. One, two, three.
"Count on Me."
"Can't Help Myself."
Oh, "Can't Help Myself."
"Can't Help Myself."
"Camouflage." "Camouflage." "Camouflage." "Camouflage."
"Next Level." "Next Level" at Lollapalooza.
Oh, yeah.
What happened?
She forgot her lyrics at Lollapalooza.
I forgot the lyrics.
Twisted, take it. Poppin'. Poppin'. Bubble, bubble.
Oh, yeah, that one is really hard.
Yeah. Twisted, turn it, twist it, flip it.
Flip it, flip. Flip it.
Let me see. Bubble, bubble, bubble, yeah.
Never have I ever muted the group chat.
Always.
What's the group chat called?
I know.
The name of the group chat will always be a secret.
We cannot say it.
Never have I ever pretended to be asleep to avoid talking to someone.
Cheers. Cheers. Salute. Yay.
Never have I ever fallen asleep during a music video shoot.
K-pop videos take from two to four days to shoot. It's usually a whole day from six, five a.m. till the next day. There's no way you're not going to sleep or fall asleep.
Never have I ever Googled myself after an interview. One, two, three.
We're going to make fun of this for sure.
Yeah. That's it for today. Thank you guys for watching and bye, Vogue.
