Can One Man Keep a Yacht Alive Through Four Rounds of Attacks?

Open on YouTube ↗
Overview

The premise of this MrBeast challenge is simple: Sean is handed a yacht and told it is officially his, with one catch. MrBeast promises to "do everything in my power to destroy it," and Sean has to protect it from attacks that include 100 cannonballs, massive explosives, and more. Before each of four phases, Sean gets 24 hours to build defenses. If the yacht fails, the video threatens to start over with a new contestant. The question running through the video is whether improvised barriers, built on a boat sitting in a lake, can actually stop escalating attacks, and how much Sean's approach improves as he goes.

Phase One: An Angled Wall Against 100 Cannon Shots

Sean immediately bought supplies on MrBeast's credit card and started on the first defense, aimed at phase one: 100 cannon shots. His stated plan was to "build a giant wall angled to hopefully block the cannon fire." He worked through the night and into the next morning until the full 24 hours ran out.

The wall did not hold up the way he hoped. Once firing began, the onlookers watched the cannonballs go "right through" and rip through the storage containers that made up the barrier. The narration says the cannons were "melting through his defense like butter." Sean called himself "toast" and said the cannons were far more powerful than he had expected. The barrage lasted what MrBeast called "a torturous three hours."

The result was mixed. The yacht survived and stayed afloat, but three of the hundred cannonballs reached it. One left a small hole and hit a rail, and another hit the boat directly. The worst damage was inside: the yacht's bathroom was described as completely destroyed, including a smashed mirror. Sean was satisfied with three hits out of a hundred, calling it "pretty good." MrBeast pushed back, telling him he needed to take phase two more seriously, and later called the phase-one build "pathetic" because it let multiple cannonballs through.

Phase Two: Mattresses Against 15 Sea Bombs

To show he was serious, MrBeast revealed phase two: in 24 hours, 15 sea bombs would explode in a circle around the yacht. He said the team had tested them before the video and that they were "extremely powerful."

Sean slept briefly on the yacht, surrounded by the bombs, and started work the next morning. A severe thunderstorm meant he could not use his crane, so everything that day had to be done by hand. His big idea was mattresses. His workers bought every mattress in town, and the crew ferried them out to the boat and covered it "all the way around, every inch." By the end, MrBeast said he could no longer tell it was a yacht. Sean also added water jugs.

Two hours before the detonation, MrBeast said Sean hadn't done as much as he expected. Sean pointed out how much easier the work would be with the crane. MrBeast pointed out how much easier it would be if the boat weren't in the water. At the deadline, MrBeast called the result possibly "the most hideous thing I've ever seen" and said he did not think it would work. Sean asked for MrBeast's hat as a prize, and MrBeast agreed to hand it over if the yacht survived.

The explosion looked devastating, and someone said there was "no way that didn't do damage." On inspection, though, the yacht was still standing and looked fine. The blasts had only burned the mattresses. The narration concludes that "somehow" the mattresses were a very effective defense against the mines.

Phase Three: Fireworks, Flaming Arrows, and Catapults

Phase three came in three levels. First would be "a million fireworks" fired straight at the yacht, then a barrage of flaming arrows from a higher level, and finally catapults (also called trebuchets) launching "flaming death balls" from the sky.

The narration says Sean's building had become efficient by this point. He told his crew to move shipping containers into place and rested while they worked. His plan was to use more shipping containers to build a giant wall, hoping it would be tall enough to stop fireworks and burning catapult debris from reaching the yacht. He also pumped lake water through sprinklers to soak the mattresses still on the boat. MrBeast was impressed. He described the result as a 40-foot-tall solid wall and said that, compared with the earlier builds, this one might actually work. Sean was openly confident and turned down extra build time, saying the yacht was covered, the wall was built, and everything behind it was wet.

The attack only partly failed. The fireworks produced a spectacle the onlookers said "doesn't look real," and some hit the top of the yacht, with smoke visible on board. The thousand flaming arrows went right over the wall. Next came the catapults, which flung what MrBeast called balloons on fire, a nod to the sponsor, though he admitted they were "basically flaming bowling balls." Early shots hit the shipping container right next to the yacht. As shots kept landing, the onlookers said the defenses were falling and the boat was exposed. The final catapult shot was a direct hit, but the soaked defenses held. Sean joked that "the only thing burned today is me."

Phase Four: Machine Guns on Top of Everything Else

MrBeast announced that the final phase would be a barrage of machine guns, plus every earlier attack combined: the fireworks, catapults, arrows, and another 100 cannonballs. In place of the scattered sea bombs, there would be a single giant mine, which MrBeast described in exaggerated terms as a "borderline nuclear missile" and "island flattening sea mine."

Sean's plan was to put "a ton of stuff" between the yacht and the incoming attacks:

  • leftover crates to plug any cracks bullets might get through
  • a mound of dirt in front of the wall, as an impact barrier where the cannons would hit
  • water-filled barrels to close off the back, since the giant bomb could come from behind

By the deadline, MrBeast listed multiple layers of metal shields against the machine guns, the sand mound and other material against the cannons, the tall wall against projectiles, and the soaked mattresses.

Sean also reflected on the strain of the challenge. He said he was away from home and missing his family, and that the water made everything harder because "you can't just walk out to the boat and put stuff on it." He said the bomb made him nervous. MrBeast said that even though his job was to destroy the yacht, he genuinely hoped Sean would win. Sean said he had wanted a boat like this since he was a little kid. MrBeast noted that 100 hours earlier there had been "just a boat," and now there was all of this.

The Final Assault

The machine guns opened fire first. The onlookers said shooters were "actually aiming through the cracks," and someone thought they saw a round get into the boat. One shooter also accidentally hit the fireworks and set them off. MrBeast told Sean honestly that he did not think the yacht would make it.

The cannons fired next. One cannonball hit the yacht, but according to the narration the crate and the dirt mound stopped the rest of the impact. The catapult defense worked well enough that Sean caught one of the burning balls: it landed inside a shipping container.

Saying that at this pace it would take all night, MrBeast ordered cannons, fireworks, arrows, and catapults launched at the same time. The smoke grew so thick that no one could see, and someone compared it to "World War III." Sean asked how much more it would take.

MrBeast saved the biggest attack for last. The team combined the sea bombs from earlier into one mega sea bomb. Here he said 14, after earlier saying the giant mine was equivalent to all 15. It was sent toward the yacht on an RC boat and set off a huge explosion.

The Outcome

Despite everything, the yacht was still floating. Sean said that although he had done a lot of weird things, he had never experienced anything like this, and he added that nobody said the yacht "had to be pretty." MrBeast acknowledged that some stray bullets and cannonballs had gotten through. He gave Sean $50,000 so he could repair the yacht.

The video ends with MrBeast asking for the yacht's name. Sean begins to answer, but the name is cut off in the transcript. MrBeast then notes that the team made sure the lake was completely cleaned up afterward.
