Overview

In this video, A.I.VOICE's Akane Kotonoha provides commentary while playing I'm Gonna Die If I Don't Eat Sushi Soon! Universe, a multiverse sushi-eating 3D action game. The protagonist loves sushi so much that they will die if they stop eating it. This protagonist takes on an evil scheme to rob the universe of the concept of "sushi as food." At the start, the commentator says, "I have no idea what this is even talking about," but plays it through to the end.

The Shibuya Tutorial and Basic Rules

The story begins in Shibuya. The first task is to eat 10 pieces of sushi, and the basic gameplay is to keep rotating the camera, finding sushi, and eating it before time runs out. According to the in-game explanation, you don't need to eat all the sushi, only as much as is required.

After the first stage, something strange happens. The sushi starts disappearing, and multiple Earths appear floating in the sky. A voice calling itself "the Great Will of Sushi" then appears and announces that someone is trying to rewrite the concept of sushi in this universe. The protagonist is tasked with collecting "Sushi Souls," the power to drive off enemies. Going by the name, the commentator imagined something like Dark Souls, but says it's actually closer to a collect-a-thon like Super Mario 64.

Conveyor-Belt Sushi, Shibuya Branch, and "Verse Shift"

The next stage is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, cleared by eating 20 pieces before dying. The commentator first thought it looked "easy," but at the parts with speed boosters, they say it reminded them of a shopping-cart game they played before. While saying their head is about to explode from the BGM and the protagonist's sheer energy, they steel themselves, noting that they'll miss pieces if they don't proceed carefully, and clear it in 31 seconds.

Even after collecting Sushi Souls, the weaponization of the concept of sushi doesn't stop. The Great Will of Sushi proposes that, since hope has vanished from this universe, they move to another one. And so the protagonist sets out on a journey, using "Verse Shift" to travel across other universes and collect Sushi Souls in each world.

Sports Sushi Verse

In the first alternate world, sushi is beloved as a sport. After collecting Sushi Souls for a while, this world's boss appears. The boss calls the protagonist "the ridiculous guy eating sushi who's been causing a stir in Shibuya" and insists that sushi is a sport that unites people's hearts. The protagonist shoots back, "Sushi is food, dammit," and a showdown begins.

In the match, it seems you pick the correct sushi from among those the opponent puts out. During the match, the boss repeatedly says things like "Why is this so much fun?" and "This is way too much fun." The commentator gets flustered as their gauge is whittled down, but praises the feel of the controls as spot-on. After the win, the boss reconciles, saying, "Looks like I misunderstood you," and parts ways with "Let's have another match sometime." The commentator lightly pokes fun at the cliché of becoming friends after a fight.

Tech Sushi Verse

In the next universe, sushi is treated as technology. This world's counterpart is a cool, glasses-wearing type who describes sushi as "an algorithm that drives the evolution of society." Here too the protagonist counters, "Sushi is food, dammit," leading to a showdown over "the function of sushi."

The commentator plays on while noting the touch that the opponent is holding a controller, and wins once the word "Goal" comes into view. The defeated boss apologizes for the rough treatment and admits that the protagonist's understanding of and interest in sushi may be exactly what society truly needs right now.

God Sushi Verse

In the third universe, sushi is worshiped as a god. The figure in this world sees the protagonist as the sushi-devouring evil that appeared in Shibuya and seeks to judge the protagonist "in sushi's stead."

This time it's a battle of eating red sushi, won by eating the required number before dying. The interference is intense, with objects flying in and things sprouting from the ground, and the commentator grumbles that they're about to cry but clears it anyway. The defeated opponent acknowledges that the protagonist has shown their love for sushi through action, and says that even if their faiths differ, the heart that seeks salvation in sushi is the same. They then send the protagonist off with, "May the blessing of sushi be upon thee as thou departest." The commentator describes this opponent as "a good guy."

Arms Sushi Verse: The Enemy Is Another Self Who Loves Sushi

The final shift destination is the protagonist's original universe, the "Arms Sushi Verse," where the concept of sushi has become a weapon. Just as the protagonist tries to restore the concept using the collected Sushi Souls, the final enemy appears. It's another version of the protagonist who loves sushi.

This enemy recounts their past. Their hometown was burned by sushi, and their older brother, their only family, was impaled by sushi. That's why, they say, sushi is the worst weapon of all. With the power gained on the brink of death, they learned that sushi is loved in every universe, whether as a sport, technology, or a god. Unable to forgive this, they set out to unify the concept of sushi across all universes as a weapon and make all of humanity reject sushi.

In battle, giant orange sushi falls from the sky. The commentator jokes, "Salmon is not sushi," but the protagonist gets knocked down once.

Allies Unite and the Final Showdown

Just as the enemy declares victory, the opponents fought in the Sports, Tech, and God universes rush to the scene. When the enemy asks why they don't die even after taking sushi at maximum firepower, they each answer with lines like "Because sushi is fun." The protagonist also gets back up and declares that it doesn't matter whether it's a sport, technology, a god, or a weapon: they'll eat all the sushi themselves. They go on to say, "I'll become sushi myself," and the allies follow with, "We'll become sushi too."

In the final battle, the techniques from each universe can be used in turn. Enemies who caused trouble along the way as invincible foes are taken down with the right-click "Sushi Kick," and one after another they're converted with the click "Sushi Convert." Finally, the protagonist finishes eating the sushi and wins.

The defeated enemy seems unable to accept it, insisting that sushi should have been the ultimate weapon. The protagonist responds with something to the effect of "I don't know if it's a concept or whatever, but I'll eat the whole thing," and the distortion of the world is set right. The story returns to Shibuya once more and comes to a close. In wrapping up, the commentator remarks on the high-energy developments, saying, "I feel like I'm going to lose my mind."
