This year is a different experience for them. Schafer walked in Vogue World last year, so this is their first time attending as a guest. They say it will be nice "to just relax and watch this time."
Setting the Mood With a Familiar Team
For Schafer, the mood while getting ready depends on who is in the room. They are working with hair and makeup artists they have "known and loved for many years": Rena Calhoun on hair and Charlotte Prevel on makeup.
Music is part of the routine too. Schafer says it varies. They had just been listening to the new Steve Lacy album, and the energy gets turned up for moments like this one, shortly before a party.
Scrapping the Original Look
The look in the video was not the original plan. Schafer explains that they started with "a more put together look," then realized that morning that they weren't "obsessed with it." So they went back to the Prada store and swapped out some of the clothes. The new direction, in their words, has "a more young, playful vibe." That change shaped both the hair and the makeup.
The Beauty Look: Skin First, Minimal Color
The makeup artist says the beauty look is "all about skin," keeping Schafer's face "very fresh and youthful." The approach is restrained: "a tiny bit on the eyes, a tiny bit on the lips," with the aim of enhancing Schafer's natural features rather than transforming them.
She describes several specific choices:
- Eyebrows kept "very thin and light," which the team says they love doing on Schafer
- A small amount of mascara
- Taupe tones around the eyes
- A little blush on the cheeks
The Hair: A Slept-In Roller Set
The hairstylist ties the hair directly to the outfit change. Because the look is now more playful, the hair is going the same way: "a broken up roller set," styled as if Schafer had slept on it overnight.
The Outfit: Layers, Texture, and Embellishment
Schafer is wearing a mix of pieces from last season's Prada, which they call "just delicious." They point out "really yummy distressed textures" and satin. There are two tops layered together, one a white poplin and the other a black organza or tulle (Schafer isn't sure which), along with embroidery and beading.

Between Projects: Blade Runner 2099
On work, Schafer says they aren't currently working on anything. Instead, they are preparing for the press cycle for Blade Runner 2099, which they say comes out on November 25th.
Heading Out
As they leave, Schafer says they don't know what to expect, because Vogue World events are "full of surprises." They mention talking with Charlie at the Prada show and knowing Charlie will be there too. Today was very cool so far. I attended the Prada show. Let's see, what season was that? Spring Summer 27? Yeah, Spring Summer 2027. And now I'm going with a group of Prada girlies to the Vogue World show, which is what we're getting ready for. First time attending Vogue World. I walked Vogue World last year, but it'll be nice to just relax and watch this time.
Part of setting the mood for when I'm getting ready is being with people that I have known and loved for many years now. So this is Rena and Charlotte and they're doing my hair and makeup today. You know, I'll put some music on sometimes. Like I just had the new Steve Lacy album on, but it varies. And then we ramp it up for something like now where we'll be at a party in a bit, you know.
Cheese. Cheese.
We started out with like a more put together look and then I realized this morning that I wasn't obsessed with it. So then I went back to the Prada store and switched some clothes out. We have like a more young, playful vibe happening.
So the beauty look today is all about skin and keeping her face very fresh and youthful. It's just a tiny bit on the eyes, a tiny bit on the lips. Just enhance her natural beauty. We love doing her eyebrows very thin and light. A tiny bit of mascara, like taupe tones around the eyes, and we love a little blush on the cheeks.
We do. For the hair, now that we've switched the look, we're going to go a little bit more playful, like a broken up roller set as if she had slept on it overnight.
Tonight I will be wearing a mixture of some pieces of last season's Prada. It's just delicious and there's some really yummy distressed textures and the satin, a layer of two tops, like one is a white poplin and one is a black organza or tulle or something, and some embroidery and beading that's really yummy.
Currently right now I'm not working on anything. I'm sort of preparing for press for Blade Runner 2099, which is coming out this November 25th. Yes.
