MAC Para's Two-Liner EN C "Verve" Will Have Winglets: Peter Reček at Coupe Icare 2023

The most recently released MAC Para product, Reček said, is the Colorado 2. It is a paramotoring glider aimed at experienced pilots.

The newest development for cross-country pilots is the Verve, an EN C two-liner. At the time of the interview it was going through certification. Reček expected it to be a new glider for the following season.

When asked whether the Verve had taken a long time, he agreed that it had. He said he took the time needed to test and tune it properly, because MAC Para focuses on pilots who want relaxed, comfortable performance and good handling. According to Reček, the glider was in development for about two years, and the team tested many prototypes along the way. At the beginning he was not sure what line configuration the wing would end up with. That part of the recording is hard to make out, but he appears to have been weighing whether it would stay a more conventional design or become a two-liner.

During development the team started using nitinol wires. Reček described the Verve as a light glider and said its low weight makes it easy to take off with. He also said he is "not a fan of very narrow air intakes," so he designed the intakes differently. The result, in his words, is a glider that is easy to use. He added the caveat that this holds "if everything goes well" with the remaining process.

Reček called the "latest news" the fact that the Verve has winglets. He said their purpose is to improve flight stability when flying accelerated. The interviewer called it big news, and Reček agreed, noting that this is the first MAC Para glider with winglets.

Reček also spoke about the Eden line. He said the current Eden 7 performs very well, is very user-friendly, and is well appreciated by pilots. By then it had been on the market for three and a half years, and MAC Para planned to replace it the following season. He said he was already working on Eden 8 prototypes. However, he cautioned that "you never know": he first has to be happy with the glider himself before it can go to market.

When asked whether winglets would appear on other MAC Para gliders such as the Eden 8, Reček said he did not know yet. The future would show whether other wings get them. He mentioned that he had heard other manufacturers already have winglets on their wings. He cited one by name, which sounds like "Triple Seven" in the recording, and said others are planning to follow. He left the question open, saying "we will see."
